Day 2: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Caves and City Tour (B, L, G)
After breakfast, you’ll embark on a cruise boat upstream on the Mekong River, offering you a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside, as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves—two linked caves filled with thousands of gold-lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes, left by pilgrims.
On your return to Luang Prabang, you’ll have the option to visit Ban Xanghai, where the local specialty of rice wine is produced, as well as Ban Xiengkek and Ban Xangkhong, where villagers make jute paper. You’ll also continue to visit the textile village of Phanom, a small village known for its hand weaving.
Once back in Luang Prabang, you’ll continue exploring the city’s highlights, including a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts from the Royal period in Luang Prabang. You’ll visit the city’s oldest temples, including the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roof sweeping low to the ground, representing classical Lao architecture, the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun, and the shrine of Wat Aham. You’ll finish the day by enjoying the view of Luang Prabang town from Phousi Mountain and exploring the Night Market. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 3: Alms Giving – Luang Prabang departure (B, DP)
Early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offerings of Alms (often in the form of sticky rice) from the faithful residents. This tradition is very unique in Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving the ritual.
This morning, you’ll drive to the beautiful Khouangsi Waterfall, where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails.
Depending on your flight, you may have some leisure time before you’ll be transferred to the airport in time for your departure.
