Destinations: Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Be – Vinh Long – Chau Doc – Can Tho – Ho Chi Minh City.
Duration: 4 Days
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – Long An – My Tho – Cai Be (L, D, G)
After escaping from Ho Chi Minh City’s urban sprawl, you’ll be taken to Long An, the gateway to the mighty Mekong. The first stage is a 25 km ride from Long An suburbs to My Tho city, passing through green rice paddies and dragon fruit farms. Our guide will explain how farmers set up and care for their dragon fruit farms. You’ll also turn onto a small village track to visit a rice noodle workshop in My Phong Commune, where you can see the traditional noodle-making process of the Chinese community dating back to 1679. These noodles are used to make the famous noodle soup called “hu tiu.” Let our guide know if you would like to try it.
We will break for lunch at a local restaurant in MyTho City.
Following lunch, you’ll travel to Cai Lay, where we’ll collect our bicycles and enjoy a leisurely two-hour afternoon ride on peaceful country lanes and quiet roads. The route will take you through local villages and along canals, with several stops to see seasonal fruits at tropical gardens such as rambutan, durian, longan, and jackfruit (they taste freshest just off the tree!). You may also have the chance to watch farmers harvesting beans, stop at a market to buy fruit, and more
Upon arriving in Cai Be, we’ll ride to a local guesthouse for the night. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at an eco guesthouse in Cai Be.
Day 2: Vinh Long – Long Xuyen – Chau Doc (B, L, D, G)
Following breakfast, under the cool shelter of the green canopy, you’ll take a half-hour bike ride on small paths mostly shared with pedestrians, local cyclists, and scooters to the ferry crossing for Vinh Long. You’ll then return to our shuttle for an approximate 1.5-hour (70 km) transfer to Lai Vung, where you’ll collect your bikes and continue your challenging day in the saddle. You’ll ride along flat scenic roads (~25 km), passing through numerous villages and pausing en route at the over 100-year-old carpet mat weaving village of Dinh Yen. After a lunch break in Long Xuyen, you’ll transfer for 1.5 hours to the canal in Chau Doc, where we’ll get back on our bikes for a 12 km ride to the sacred Sam Mountain. You’ll take a leisurely hike up 2.5 km to the summit of Sam Mountain to enjoy the sunset over the vast rice fields between Vietnam and Cambodia. You’ll spend the night in Chau Doc.
Day 3: Chau Doc – Tra Su – Can Tho (B, L, D, G)
We’ll rise early for a boat cruise through the vibrant riverside market, experiencing its bustling activity and a smorgasbord of sounds, colors, and smells. We’ll also cruise through the floating village, where you can see countless fish farmed underneath hundreds of shelters.
Afterward, we’ll be transferred for about half an hour to Bau Muop, where we’ll remount our bicycles for a flat ride of approximately 10 km to the Tra Su Nature Reserve. There, we’ll take a boat trip to explore the picturesque mangroves and spot rare migratory birds.
After lunch at a local restaurant, your car and driver will take you to Thom Rom (~2 hours), or another location more suitable to your cycling ability, where you will collect your bikes for an additional 20 km of cycling. Discuss your preferences with our guide, who will plan a route that includes either a short ride or as much cycling as you’d like. You’ll spend the night in Can Tho.
Day 4: CanTho – Ho Chi Minh City (B, L, G)
After breakfast and a boat cruise, you’ll arrive at Cai Rang floating market on the Mekong Delta. Both the journey and the market provide insights into the rural Mekong Delta lifestyle. Afterward, you’ll mount our bikes for another two hours of pleasant riding under the lush green jungle canopy in one of the most scenic areas of the Delta. We’ll pass through numerous rural villages alongside small canals, greeting locals (many of whom will also be on bicycles). We’ll also pause at local markets along the way to observe how the vendors conduct their business.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll return to Ho Chi Minh City where you’ll spend the night.
