Destinations: Luang Prabang – Khuang Si Waterfall – Pak Ou Cave
Duration: 4 Days
Day 1: Luang Prabang arrival (DP)
Upon arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel. Luang Prabang has been recognized by UNESCO as the best-preserved city in Southeast Asia. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 2: Luang Prabang – Cooking Class and Waterfall (B, L, G)
‘The Bamboo Experience’ is a rustic pavilion modeled on a traditional Lao house, perched in a picturesque setting next to rice fields. You’ll be introduced to the importance of bamboo in Lao culture and its use in a diverse range of household items found in rural Lao dwellings.
You’ll enjoy a relaxing bamboo weaving activity, where you’ll weave a souvenir mat made from strips of the bamboo plant using a technique that has been practiced for centuries. Then, you’ll participate in a fun, interactive cooking class, using bamboo as a key ingredient to make dishes such as bamboo shoot soup, bamboo shoot steamed in banana leaf, bamboo shoot dip, and more.
Afterward, you’ll savor a delicious meal (made by you) and have photo opportunities of semi-rural Laos from the relaxing pavilion. The experience includes a round-trip transfer from and to your hotel in the center of town, with an English-speaking instructor. One meal, either lunch or dinner, and drinking water or tea are included, along with all activities mentioned above. You’ll join with other participants for this experience.
After your lunch, you’ll drive to the beautiful Khouangsi Waterfall, where you can splash around in the turquoise pools or walk along the forest paths. On the way, you’ll visit villages of different Laotian ethnic minorities (Ban Quay, Ban Ou).
You’ll finish the day by enjoying the view of Luang Prabang town from Phousi Mountain and exploring the Night Market. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 3: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Cave (B, G, G)
After breakfast, you’ll board a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which offers you a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves—two linked caves filled with thousands of gold-lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. Once back in Luang Prabang, you’ll take a short drive to Ban Phanom, a village well known for its hand weaving. You’ll also have time to visit Ban Xangkhong and Ban Xienglek, small villages renowned for their silk weaving and Saa (jute) papermaking. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
