Day 2: Pannala
Today is at leisure to relax by the pool or explore the estate by bicycle or by bullock cart.
Day 3: Pannala – Cultural Triangle
After breakfast, your driver will meet you at your hotel and you will set off for Dambulla, in the cultural triangle region, a journey of approximately 3 hours.
On arrival in Dambulla you will be taken on a tour to the famous Golden Rock Cave Temple complex. The caves are located at the top of a hill and the only access is on a pathway and stairs carved into the hillside, it is possible to drive up to a point about half way up for those who don’t fancy walking all the way from the bottom. At the top you are rewarded with 5 magical and dimly lit caves crammed with Buddhist statues and murals. Dating back over 2000 years the caves are of huge significance to Sri Lanka’s Buddhists. After exploring the caves and taking in the impressive views from the top (on a clear day you will get a very good view of Sigiriya Rock), descend the hill, back to the comfort of your air-conditioned car. Continue to your resort nearby to check-in and relax.
Day 4: Cultural Triangle
Early this morning you will be driven to the bottom of the Sigiriya rock, one of Sri Lanka’s most famous and striking attractions. The rock is best climbed early in the morning and depending on your time of departure, you may wish to arrange for a packed breakfast to be taken with you, this can be arranged at your hotel the night before. On arrival at the rock you will commence the climb with an expert local guide who will explain the ancient history of this unique rock fortress. Walk through the extensive gardens, ringed by an intimidating moat and up the steep steps, passing through the famous Lion’s Paw to the summit where you will enjoy the jaw-dropping views out over the Sri Lankan countryside. After some time to rest, descend the rock and meet up with your driver who will take you for lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch transfer to Habarana, where you will be taken on a bullock cart ride to Hiriwadunna Village, a small farming village where you will experience the simple lifestyle of our native culture. At the end of the track you will arrive at a lotus-clad lake. Board a local catamaran to cross the lake and you will arrive at a small farm on the opposite bank. Here you can enjoy a cup of ginger tea and learn about the crops that are grown by the farmers there. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon for the evening at leisure.
Day 5: Cultural Triangle
Early this morning you will be driven about 30 minutes north-east from Sigiriya for a private jeep safari. Depending on the season and conditions on the ground, the safari will either be in the Minneriya National Park or the Hurulu Eco-Park, both famed for their elephant populations.
This area is known locally as the ‘elephant corridor’ due to the large number of elephants that pass through at certain times of year when the water dries up in different parts of the country. As well as elephants you are also likely to see deer, monkeys and many rare species of bird.
This afternoon is at leisure to relax back at your hotel or explore the area around Dambulla and the nearby lakes independently. Bicycles can be rented locally and are a good way to explore.
Day 6: Cultural Triangle – Anamaduwa
After breakfast, head west by road to the Mudhouse, near the town of Anamaduwa, a journey of approximately 3 hours.
Day 7: Anamaduwa
There is plenty to do and see in the local area and a range of guided excursions are provided free of charge by the Mudhouse. These include visits to local lakes and temples, bird watching at the Anawilundawa bird sanctuary, mangrove and lagoon boat trips, guided cycle rides and treks to some nearby villages.
Day 8: Anamaduwa – Alankuda Beach
Check out of the Mudhouse early this morning and set off with a packed breakfast to the Wilpattu National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s largest and most interesting national parks. The wildlife population is starting to return after years of abuse and the park today is home to countless mammals, reptiles and rare birdlife and offers one of the best nature experiences anywhere on the island.
Your safari today will be in a private jeep with an expert local tracker who will endeavour to help you have the best wildlife sightings possible. Conditions of the tracks around the park differ, depending on the time of year, but generally you should expect them to be bumpy and dusty.
After your safari, continue by road to Alankuda Beach on the Kalpitiya peninsula, this is a journey of approximately 2 hours.

“We had very good guides”
“Mr Phuoc was outstanding. His command of global events and being able to put Vietnam into international context was impressive. Very personable, knowledgable, flexible and enthusiastic. A real ambassador for his country while also recognising the shortcomings and opportunities facing Vietnam. He didn’t just repeat history about sights, but he actively sought our own views and then worked out what would be of interest and why. If we were to revisit Vietnam, or recommend a top guide, it would be Mr Phuoc”
“Thanks to Avada Travel Team”
“I am very pleased with how much effort the booking agents put into helping me customize my trip. They were receptive to my input and understanding when I wanted to make changes. They also helped me put my itinerary together very quickly. I booked the trip less than two weeks before I travelled. Avada Travel was successfully able to get me a visa in time for my trip with the strict time constraint we were working under.”
“I will come back Vietnam”
“I wish I had time to see Sa Pa. I am already trying to figure out when I can go back to Vietnam just so I can visit Sa Pa. Even though Ha Long Bay is incredibly beautiful and it was one of my favorite places, I wish I had opted to visit Bai Tu Long or a nearby area instead. Ha Long Bay was so overcrowded and touristy, it was disappointed to be stuck in such a limited area of the Bay when it is so vast. I would recommend that travelers explore their options and stay in nearby areas Cat Ba, Bai Tu Long, Lan Ha, etc and spend more time.”
